We look forward to working with our Native families to provide them with quality child-care assistance and with our providers to continuously improve the quality of care that is offered. With increasing Native American Populations, the Kaw Nation recognizes the need to assist families with their childcare costs. The Kaw Nation Subsidy Program provides childcare assistance to Native American Families whose members are working or attending school.

The Kaw Nation Child Care Development Center promotes postitive family involvement, age-appropriate environments and curriculum, developmentally-appropriate activities, and a well trained first rate staff.

How To Apply

A tribal family may apply for a subsidy given that they qualify under the following:

  • Member of a federally recognized tribe (child must have or be in the process of receiving CDIB)
  • Within our service area: Kay County in Oklahoma or Cowley, Sedgewick, or Sumner County in Kansas
  • Currently employed or seeking employment
  • Currently enrolled in job training
  • Currently enrolled in school and/or education program
  • Receiving protective services

Eligibility

  1. Tribal membership of childIncome does not exceed 85 percent of state median income.
  2. Children on the subsidy program must be under the age of 13.

Kanza School Age Center Programs

Art Center

If your child enjoys creating projects with paint, clay, and collage materials, the Art Center will be their spot.  Children are encouraged to express their creative talents through free art as well as quality curriculum that will be available to them daily.

Games Center

Children are encouraged to work cooperatively through game play and build their cognitive and motor skills.  They can build cities with Magna Tiles, put together puzzles, or play a variety of games with their friends.                                                       –

Science Center

Attention, all scientists: children who love exploring nature and geography, will love this center.  They can classify different animals and rocks, perform science experiments, and enhance their math skills in a whole new way.                                 

Play Center

Put on a puppet show or dress up as a doctor, chef, fireman, or policeman.  This center lets children use their imaginations and pretend to be anything they want to be.  Children who love to role play and express themselves freely will love this area.                                                                      –

Block Center

Children who love to construct will be given a variety of materials to use.  They will have access to different types of blocks: wooden blocks, hollow blocks, plastic blocks.  There are a variety of vehicles, traffic signs, people, and animals for the children to use to make anything imaginable.

Library

Unwind with a calm place to read or engage in educational activities to facilitate that literature is gratifying.  This center gives the children access to a variety of literature to fulfill your child’s educational needs.  Younger children can be read to, and older children can improve their reading skills.

KSAC

Kanza School Age Center

KSAC seeks to provide quality child care and educational services as well as to aid Native families in their search for childcare solutions.

Rates

  • $7.00 per day for a half-day
  • $15.00 per day for a full day (more than 5 hours)
  • A 10% discount for families with multiple children will be given

  • 7:00a.m. to 5:30p.m. for in-service days, school breaks, and summer break.
  • 7:00a.m. to 7:30a.m. for before-school care.
  • 2:30p.m. to 5:30p.m. for after-school care.

Kanza School Age Center is open Monday through Friday.  The center will be closed some holidays and days set forth by Kaw Nation.  Proper notification will be given to allow for alternative care.

Curriculum

A variety of areas are offered for self-directed, and teacher led activities to promote the development of:

  • Social/emotional skills
  • Gross/fine motor skills
  • Language/communication
  • Cognitive skills
  • Literacy

Our Language Department comes to our center one to two times a week to work with the children on our Kaw language.  We also collaborate with JOM in cultural activities; the children attend the Summer Day Camp JOM puts together.  Throughout the Summer a variety of educational and fun field trips are set up.

Kanza Early Child Developement Center

KECDC seeks to provide quality child care and educational services as well as to aid Native families in their search for childcare solutions.

PAULA WYNN

I am Paula Wynn, Administrative Assistant to the Child Care Director. I am A native Kay County citizen. I previously worked in the real estate industry for several years. I started at Kaw Nation in June  in the Kanza Child Development Center. I have enjoyed everyone I work with in child care. In my spare time I enjoy camping, swimming, and reading. I look forward to working with everyone at Kaw Nation.

TRINITY LEWIS

Hi! My name is Trinity Lewis. I was born and raised in Tonkawa, but have lived in Ponca City for the last twenty years. I am married and have two kids, two dogs, and a cat. My daughter Kaitlynn, is a senior at Northwestern. She is majoring in psychology with an emphasis on family counseling. My son, Matthew is a highschool sophomore. His interests include auto mechanics and gaming. I am very proud of their accomplishments. My greatest interest is all focused around family and making memories. My husband and I enjoy cooking together, the more challenging the dish, the more laughter between us. We also enjoy camping out at the river. The peace and tranquility of the night time on the river banks is where my heart desires to be.

HALEY GODDARD

Hawe´, my name is Haley Goddard. I am the daughter of Robin Bellmard and the late Steve Chrisco, and Granddaughter of Lily Bellmard, and the late Kennis Bellmard. My husband of 18 years and I live in Ponca City with our 4 kids. I am a Realtor ®, a yoga instructor, and now added JOM specialist to the list. I’m excited to be a part of the KHDD team and I look forward to being involved in our tribal youth’s continued success in life.

LINDSEY SPOTED BEAR

Hi, my name is Lindsey Spotted Bear. I am the Subsidy Intake Specialist for Kaw Nation. I have enjoyed working for the tribe for quite a few years, taking on my newest position over two years ago.  I have loved getting to take on this new challenge and being able to help families utilize this program. I have worked in the childcare field for twenty-one years. I am also a proud and busy mom to my not so little family. They keep me very busy in my time away from work. On any given weeknight you can find me with the rest of my family in the stands cheering on who ever happens to be competing that night for whichever sport happens to be in season. They are also all actively involved with their culture from participating in Kaw`s Language program to various Dances and Powwows so my weekends stay busy as well.

RAYE BROWN

My name is Raye Brown and I have been the Office Manager at the Kanza Child Care Center since July 1, 2024.  I am married with five beautiful daughters and ten grandchildren.  I enjoy spending time with my family, reading and crocheting.  I’ve loved getting to know my co-workers and children here and look forward to what lies ahead working for Kaw Nation. 

NICOLE WILLET

Hi my name is Nicole Willett, and I am the Daycare Coordinator at Kaw Nation Child Care Center.  I took role over earlier this year and have loved being a part of the growth of the facility. I have previously worked in childcare for 13 years and love working with the children. I have Thress beautiful kids Kaylee, Jaymee, Eli. I have been married to my wonderful husband Jeremy for nine years.
